The Current Multiple Sclerosis Therapies To Date
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a terrifying disease. What’s worse is the fact that it has something to do with your immune system going haywire. If you have multiple sclerosis then that would mean that the immune system that is supposed to protect you is attacking the myelin sheathes that protects your spinal cord. The damage caused to the myelin sheathes results into a communication breakdown. With your myelin sheathes damaged, your brain won’t be able to send the right signals to your nerves. This usually results into the nerve spasms that cause the patient to feel a burning sensation called MS burning. The feeling of getting burned even though your body is perfectly fine is a painful and terrifying experience. The pain that multiple sclerosis brings can result into the lack of sleep that also subsequently weakens the patient. There are some cases that the pain is so intense that the patients cannot even perform simple tasks because the burning sensation is disrupting their actions. Most multiple sclerosis therapies only temporarily cure the condition but they don’t prevent any further attacks. More often than not, patients need to be heavily monitored so that they can live without fearing their symptoms. The good news is that scientists may have found a way of healing MS.
The reason why most multiple sclerosis therapies only aim to cure the symptoms and not the disease itself is due to the fact that the body’s own immune system is the cause of all the problems. It is just not possible to shut down your immune system since it is responsible for protecting your body from bacteria and viruses. This means that your immune system cannot be stopped from rampaging the myelin sheathes of your spinal cord. So how is healing ms possible if the root cause of the disease cannot be stopped? The answer lies on regenerating your myelin sheathes at a rapid rate. To be able to do this, the body needs the building blocks for the myelin sheathes and this is called the Myelin Basic Protein (MBP.) Regenerating your myelin sheathes at a quick pace is only possible with large doses of MBP. The only problem is that there is no way to make the human body produce more of this protein. If this solution isn’t executed well then the patients that suffer from multiple sclerosis are going to experience MS burning without any hope for a full cure.
There is still hope for those who constantly suffer from ms burning since there are some scientists who have found a breakthrough in healing MS. Studies show that cows can produce milk that is rich with MPB if they are given an artificial human gene. These genes will allow the cows to produce milk with the a type of protein that the human body can use to regenerate the myelin sheathes of the spinal cord. The only problem is that there are some groups who are against the process of altering the genetic codes of cows. However, it is quite obvious that this treatment trumps all the current multiple sclerosis therapies to date.
